Niwaeli Kimambo

Niwaeli is a double concentrator in
Geology and History. Through the Royce Fellowship, she spent the
summer of 2011 in Tanzania researching the the legacy of
villagization. She looked at archival records of various ujamaa
villages and settled on two in which she conducted oral interviews.
Later on, she sought remotely-sensed images to garner a different
kind of history – a history from above, in order to further
understand and explain changes in the landscape that were brought
about by villagization – its function and its failure.
