I am a a Ph.D. student in UC Berkeley’s Geography department, studying new media, communication, and immigration/diaspora issues. What are the implications of increasingly affordable, fast, accessible tools for transnational communication, especially for migrant communities? That's the question that drives my research.

Previously, I worked as a new media specialist in the international broadcasting industry. I collaborated with reporters to develop strategies for using social media, crowdsourcing, mobile phones, and other new media tools to deliver news and engage with audiences around the world, often in very challenging, closed environments. I have had the honor of training incredible, dedicated journalists from places as far-flung as Iran, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan.
